How to update to ExpressVPN 4.0 for Windows

There are two ways to update to ExpressVPN 4.0: through the app and through the website.

Method 1 — Update through the app

To update the app through the app itself, open the ExpressVPN app for Windows on your computer. Click the update notification.

Method 2 — Update through our website

To update the app through our website, sign in to your account and click Set up my VPN account.

You’ll see a DOWNLOAD NOW link on the next page. Click the link to download and update the app.

If you’re already using ExpressVPN 4.0.1, we highly recommend updating to 4.0.2 for improved stability and ease of use. Just follow the instructions above.

Let’s dive into the newest features:

  1. Sleek new design. Out with the old, in with the new! We’ve refreshed the look of ExpressVPN for Windows.
  2. Favorite locations. Mark preferred locations as “favorites” so they’re always within reach.
  3. Improved location selection. Filter our locations across 94 countries by region or alphabetically.
  4. Automatic reconnection. If your connection drops unexpectedly, we’ll automatically reconnect you to the location you were using.
  5. Full in-app help. If you run into trouble with the VPN, you can reach a customer support agent without even leaving the app.
  6. Always know your connection status. The new app displays the state of your connection in the taskbar and notification area. We’ve also added desktop notifications so you get alerts if anything goes wrong.
  7. Express connection. No more switching to the ExpressVPN window to manage your connection! Power users can now connect and switch between locations from the notification area.

ExpressVPN 3.416 for Windows

Announcing v3.416 of ExpressVPN for Windows

New in this version:

  1. Better support for Windows 8.1
  2. If your connection drops unexpectedly: ExpressVPN will attempt to reconnect automatically, and network connections outside the VPN tunnel will not be allowed until the connection succeeds again. This prevents your computer’s network traffic from being sent unprotected by accident.
  3. Multi-user installations: a user with administrator rights can now install ExpressVPN so that it’s available to all users on a given PC. However, each of those users still needs administrator rights. ExpressVPN currently does not work for users without administrator rights.

The update is free for all customers. Just click the “New version available” link in the ExpressVPN app, or sign in to our customer control panel and click the “Set up my VPN account” link.

ExpressVPN 3.305 for Windows

Announcing a new version of ExpressVPN for Windows — v3.305

ExpressVPN for Windows 3.305 includes a great new feature: automatic protocol selection. We’ve made this the default setting for new installations.

ExpressVPN lets you choose between OpenVPN (UDP or TCP), L2TP / IPSec, or SSTP. For most users, OpenVPN over UDP is the fastest and most secure option. However, it can be blocked depending on where you’re connecting from. The automatic selection feature solves this problem by choosing an alternative protocol without any extra steps.

To set the protocol manually, just click the “Options” button in the app. It’s worth experimenting with the choices to figure out which protocol suits you best.

ExpressVPN v3.305 also loads much faster than before.

To update, simply click the “New version” link in your existing ExpressVPN software.

Here are some things you’ll notice

-New VPN server recommendations based on where you are. So depending on where you connect from, Los Angeles won’t always be the default first option, as it used to be.

-To access all server locations, not just the recommended ones, click the tab labeled “All.”

-A “Connect automatically to the best location” button that will automatically pick a location for you

-We’ll now let you know if your account is expiring, along with other important messages, right in the app. We also provide a direct link to your account page to buy new subscriptions, change your plan, etc.

-If your account has expired and you want to activate the app with a new code, you can do so from within the app itself.

Last week, ExpressVPN released version v3.097 of ExpressVPN for Windows. You’ll notice the following improvements:

  1. “Most recently used” locations. This lets you quickly connect to any of your 3 most recently used locations.
  2. Improved visual design of our scrolling location list
  3. There’s a new “Speed Tests” button in the “Options” section. It takes a few minutes to run. Our app will measure the speeds from your computer to various ExpressVPN locations and securely report the results to us. This helps us provide you with the fastest possible speeds.
